Confidentiality Policy

Exploramer understands the importance of respecting privacy and protecting the personal information it collects, whether it be on the organization’s website, on the Smarter Seafood platform or at any of the events it organizes. This policy aims to inform you about how we collect, use, share, save and protect your personal information.

The types of information that we collect depend on the nature of our interactions.

Smarter Seafood

Generally speaking, the information collected on the Smarter Seafood platform concerns businesses and not individuals. However, some of the information collected may be considered personal information, for example when the professional address of a business owner is the same as his or her home address. • Region
  • Contact name (optional)

  • Address of company (optional; possibility to obscure the address on the website)

The platform is only used to put businesses in touch with fishers/producers by sharing information on poorly known and underexploited marine species. The platform cannot be used for financial transactions (no purchases or transfers of funds possible).

Once subscribed, you may choose to unsubscribe by emailing the privacy officer at the following address:

This is done through the use of archives / log files and cookies and is useful for us to improve user experience or for statistical purposes. In order to protect you personal information, your session on our website automatically expires after a certain period of inactivity, which notably means that any items added to your shopping cart are deleted.

You can choose to deactivate cookies entirely or plan for them to be deleted from your Internet browser, though this might reduce the quality of your user experience, as cookies are used to ensure that websites work correctly.

Exploramer only collects, uses or shares your personal information with your consent, which is required and permitted under the law. When you opt to provide your personal information, you agree that your personal information may be used as described in this confidentiality policy or as might be mentioned at the time such information is being collected.

Explicit Consent

You will sometimes be invited to give your explicit consent by checking a box to indicate that you agree to the transmission of your personal information and confirm that you have read the terms of this confidentiality policy. This option generally appears when you are completing the form on our website or on one of our platforms.

Implied Consent

In other cases, we may obtain your implied consent when we can reasonably conclude that you have given your consent through an action that you took or decided not to take. This generally occurs when the purpose of using your personal information is reasonably apparent to you, for example when you send an email by clicking on an email address or “Contact us.”

Exploramer uses your personal information for the purposes indicated herein when such information is collected in accordance with your consent or for purposes authorized under the law.

Exploramer shares personal information with its staff members whose functions require access to such data.

Exploramer also shares these data with its service partners, including, as mentioned above, those that manage the newsletter, online ticketing, and the Smarter Seafood online marketplace (via the creation of an online account). Other such third parties may include providers of technology solutions and professionals committed to helping us offer our services.

Any data sharing will be limited to what is necessary to achieve the aims for which these data were collected. Exploramer takes the necessary measures to ensure that the information is treated as confidential.

Personal information is retained as long as it is useful to achieve the objectives for which it was collected.

When a purchase is made, Exploramer only saves the payment information that you have provided. This information is shared and managed by service partners (in this case, AudienceView).

The personal information that we collect is saved in a secure environment. Individuals who work for us are required to respect the confidentiality of your information.

To ensure that your personal information is secure, we use physical, technological and administrative measures to protect the data that we collect from any unauthorized or accidental destruction, alteration, access or disclosure. Examples of such measures include limited access to our server room, firewalls, computer access management, staff training, etc.

We undertake to maintain a high degree of confidentiality by striving to integrate the latest technological innovations. However, as no mechanism is 100% fail-proof, there is always some level of risk whenever one shares personal information online.

Links to other Internet sites or resources, provided exclusively for the sake of information or convenience, may appear on our website. Whenever you click on one of these links, you communicate with another website or Internet resource.

Given that it has no control of the external sites that certain links may redirect you to, Exploramer accepts no responsibility with regard to these websites or Internet resources as well as the collection, use or disclosure of your personal information that take place there. We encourage you to read the confidentiality policies of these other websites (which will apply in such cases) to learn how they collect and use your personal information.

We undertake to offer you access, refusal and opt-out rights as they relate to your personal information.

The right of access is defined as the possibility for Internet users to consult or modify any information that concerns them.

The right of refusal is defined as the possibility for Internet users to decline that their personal information be used for certain purposes mentioned at the time it is collected.

The right to opt out is defined as the possibility for Internet users to request that their personal information no longer be included, for instance in a distribution list.

In order to exercise these rights, or for any question on this confidentiality policy or how your personal information is handled, you may contact the privacy officer at the following address:

This confidentiality policy may on occasion be amended in order to maintain compliance with applicable laws and take into account any change in our data collection process.
